Almost a year in the making

For our March blog post we wanted to highlight a very special project! In the spring of 2022 we decided to build a new home here in Grand Rapids, MI. After 10 months the beauty is finally complete and we could not be happier! That takes us to our main topics for this blog.
Building isn't easy.
Heck, renovations aren't easy! If you haven't done it before, then know it's a process. It's worth every wait, and the blood sweat and tears. However, we'd be lying if we said it was easy. The housing market didn't make it easier. In 2022 we got married and a week later had to move out of our current home because of prime selling in summer and fall. That meant we had to go from a 3 bedroom 1.5 bath home with a basement, to an apartment townhome with 2 beds & 1.5 baths 😬. Our only sanity was labeling every box, as we had to split up boxes in our townhouse garage, storage unit, and our parents homes. This also meant that come February 2023, we moved for the second time in less then a year. So if you currently are in the process of doing this, or maybe your planning it. Know you aren't alone! It's the right thing to do in the end, and it has the best outcome.
Along with moving comes the selections.
As a designer and a handyman you'd think this would be a cake walk! Dead wrong. Designing and building for others comes naturally to us. We can separate ourselves to picture your project the way you envisioned, and also bring ideas to the table you may not of thought of. That is why we are here, to help bring your dream to life! Bringing your own dream to life is a completely different story. Even us designers are indecisive and sometimes pick things that we are unsure of.
So if you are on the fence about having a designer do your project, you may want to think twice.
That one additional idea may be the key to your dream project being everything it's meant to be and more.
If you are going this route without a designer (and really you shouldn't, we rock 😉). But if you choose to, we recommend trusting your gut. With a new build it's all you have. There isn't a space to test lighting or see how all the other materials will go together. Realistically you'll use some pieces you already have, so it can be challenging. Looking at a small 2"x 2" swatch in an small office doesn't make it easier! However, if you were drawn to it then it's speaking to you. That's the number one key to choosing the right option.
Would we do it again? Absolutely.
We documented the process to share with you all. Below you'll find photos from the finished product to the beginning as a dirt pile! Another rewarding outcome to see it come to life.
We hope this knowledge helps ease your mind and take that leap of faith on a new build or renovation. It's daunting, but oh so worth it because it's all you! As we head in to spring, message us today to start that dream project you've been waiting for.
You won't regret it!

Your new home is gorgeous! You made putting the whole design together appear seamless. Such a rewarding project.
