For us, a design can't shine if it's full of clutter.
When spring comes around the corner it's a chance for a refresh. Not only does that mean potentially a new design, but also a chance to refresh the space with a spring clean!
In this months blog we wanted to touch on tips and tricks for spring cleaning that can help elevate the current design of your space.

Tip 1: Feng Shui a Room
Most of us have probably heard of the term Feng Shui, but what exactly is it?
By definition Feng Shui is a practice of arranging the pieces in living spaces to create balance with the natural world.
This is a powerful way to refresh a space, and also give it a new perspective. Just by moving a couple pieces, it can change the entire layout of a room. A great way to get a new vibe, without spending money to do it! Although, adding a new piece is never a bad idea. By adding one new piece and adjusting the pieces in a room it can make it feel as though you completely re-vamped a space. We recommend focusing on one room at a time. There are no right and wrong answers. Trial and error by moving pieces around. Even leaving them for a couple days to see how the room feels!

Tip 2: Declutter
So this one feels like a given when it comes to spring cleaning, but it can also be daunting. How do you know what to keep and what to remove? Our best advice is take it in stages. Work in one room and even one corner of that space. Ask yourself, does this item serve this room? If the room feels empty without it, consider keeping it. However, if you remove the item and you instantly feel like the room is now more airy or balanced consider removing it.
One tip we've heard is using the 20/20 rule. This rule works well if you are on the fence about removing something. The 20/20 rule is if you let go of an item, you can either replace the item for $20 and replace it in less then 20 minutes.
Another item to consider when decluttering is also seeing if instead of removing the item maybe it just needs a new place or a more organized presentation. This could mean clear boxes for storage, or moving decor items to balance the space. Not all items need to be thrown out or donated during a declutter process. Consider maybe the item can also work in another room!

Tip 3: Don't be afraid of change
I recently had a client mention to me they don't hang anything on walls because they are scared of commitment. It's hard to convince yourself that a piece of artwork is right enough to put holes in your wall. But it's important not to be scared of change or filling a space. Yes, while it's not recommended to fill every wall, utilizing a artwork piece on a wall can be inspiration for the room or anchor the space. It can also make an empty room feel more comfortable or balanced.
If you are scared to commit, consider looking into companies that sell pieces that aren't going to require you to hammer a nail in the wall to hang it.
Now a days a lot of companies are selling sticky backing on pieces to have the ability to move and change the space as you see fit. One of the ones we've been loving lately is Mixtiles! (Not an ad we just enjoy it). The tiles are light and you can upload any image you like! They hang easily and can be moved around as needed, nail free!

Tip 4: Paint changes everything
Our last and final tip is to consider paint. We don't really think of paint when it comes to spring cleaning or changing up a space, but changing the color of a space really can change it completely. This could be painting the entire space, painting just an accent wall, or painting a design on the wall(s).
Paint really can set the tone of the space. It can also be considered artwork. Consider grabbing some paint swatches and hanging them in the space to see how they feel.
We always recommend leaving paint swatches up for a couple days to see it in different light. Go on Pinterest to see if any ideas spark your interest on how you may be able to spice up your room with color! Color can even be white, the options for paint are endless.

We hope these four tips help to give a new perspective on spring cleaning! As always, we are here to help you. Even if it's as small as picking a paint color. Don't hesitate to reach out to us to help you achieve that perfect balanced room you've always wanted!
